Blonde on blonde (blurry)

Today I finally had a chance to listen to this cd I bought from Hulst last Sunday. (On the background the picture frames from “stupid birds” shop in Hulst, also known as de rozenboog.) On the same day I finally found goji berries! Verswinkel Marlou Segers had them in a plastic box next to all kinds of chocolate covered goodies. But the taste of goji was a disappointment.. I’ll just have to get used to it. Superfood!!

So today I had a day off and I stayed home which made S sort of jealous of my fine day alone. I didn’t drink thee as he “fantasized” in advance. But I did go to the garage and got 3 boxes out. One containing photo albums – about time to save them from the moist forest air. Another box was labeled as my stuff from the closet upstairs and it contained lots of interesting stuff which I’ll look closer another time. One wooden library box had gone a bit bad and I had to rinse a thin layer of mold from it and dry it by the fire. It’ll be ok after I’ve glued the lid together again. The third box was filled with x-mas decorations. Some of them are already spread around the house. Then I found snow flakes upstairs and attached them in the windows. Here’s my corner before I hung the green pearl slingers and blinking garlands around the window (to hide the ugly sides).

(We need to get rid of the roses wallpaper next year!)

The cd player in the living room was not attached to the stereo and I didn’t want to go looking for wires so I just turned on the old flat panel and listened with that. It took me all day to do all kinds of tiny things so it was already dark when I got a chance to eat. I fried green curry shrimps with onion and broccoli in a wok. Really nice!

Blue

For the first time in our forest house I’ve managed to grow this plant up to the point that the morning glory actually blooms. Although blue is not my favorite color I just love it! I used to have it growing on our window sill in Gent.

It was a terrific hot day and I had to do a lot of laundry. Gk is here and we went for a walk in the forest before noon while S drove off to the village to get some paint and other stuff. I was planning to pre-paint the attic walls but the roll did not fit the handle so I had to skip it. S went on to put lime on another wall. Since I had time now that the painting was called off I cleaned up the windows, all of them.

Lime on the wall

Just before dark Gk biked to Suzy’s to get some frietjes. It was the first time she biked so far all on her own and she was so proud afterwards. S cooked mussels in white wine and we ate them out in the garden in the candle light. Grasshoppers held a concert for us.

Tired morning..

Strawberries and blueberries

I love the mornings in the weekend – or any other day when there’s no hurry to anywhere. Walk through the forest to the mailbox and bring home the newspaper. Take your time making breakfast and eat it. Read any interesting article in the weekend paper instead of just turning the pages to view the titles and images. Let your eyes wander to the window and just look at the world while your coffee turns cold..

Low Carb bread with Cottage Cheese

Musical

January 10th, 2010

Today i was planning to remove every piece of seasonal decoration and dye my hair fresh copper again. Instead i started with backing up & updating my wordpress and for the rest of the day i’ve been helping S with wordpress and a new site for DvhS. We had quick and late lunch from the leftovers of yesterday’s spinach lasagne..

Oh, and after breakfast i played Róisín Murhpy‘s new song from the internet (momma’s place) and S immediately linked it to ’80s, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Roadblock by S+A+W. His brain makes fast connections when it comes to music.

Earlier this week we met in De Wan after work and some guy there wanted to hear Rod Piazza (and the mighty flyers) so the cafébaas looked it up for him. Makes your feet move to the beat! ;)

Wonderful surprise!

Lepotuolit auringossa..

S came back from the sea and got a very nice surprise with him. Two sunloungers! They’re just plain common iron tube + thin mattress and yet perfect. What a new sensation to lay comfortably outside reading or with your laptop, head in the shadow and legs in the sunshine. Warm summer breeze and a refreshing drink on your side..

Eventually we want to buy the nice wooden things – the same as in aqua-azul – but they’re so hard to find. It should have a flexible wooden construction, sort of rope bridge, that follows the curves of your back.

Hackman soup spoon

Yesterday we did the unusual thing and drove to gent on a saturday!! S had to hand out some flyers in the happening at kringloopwinkel brugse poort and i went along to do some shopping.

Found something familiar there for a democratic price of one and half euro. Still in it’s original package a soup spoon with a wooden stem (palissander) made in sorsakoski, finland. So cute! It’s from Lion Deluxe set designed by bertel gardberg somewhere in the sixties.

Also bought seventeen plates in four different sizes for 8,75 euros. They’re white with brown stripe around on the edge and two blue flowers painted on the border. They’re made in sweden by rörstrand and the set is designed by jacqueline lynd in 1988. They look much older though, vintage style. Here’s a coffeecup from the same set. Turns out that in 1989 hackman bought the porcelain production in wärtsilä and they continued under the name rörstrand-hackman. Today they’re both brands of of iittala group.

Rörstrand Diamant Viva Jackie Lynd

I have no idea where the six glasses i bought in the same place come from.

We had meat fondue party in the garden yesterday evening. Just the two of us and the chicken.

It’s been a warm sunny day and i accidentally burned my neck. We biked to a second hand market in zwaluwlaan and made a tour along the river on our way back home. Spotted a possible bike for Gk for sale on the side of the road. Noted down the phone number. Now we both got unisex mexican striped long green summer pants. 1969 edition of photography annual. A pen holder with a yellow canary bird carved from one piece of wood.

I posted this out in our garden with annoying but silent small flies buzzing around the screen and listening to classic21 from our wireless wooden speaker. S was laying lazy on the trampoline all this time and he still is, reading his book. We’ll have some pancakes with whipped cream soon..

Apple blossoms

It’s such a peaceful morning, the first of this weekend. The sun is slowly rising and the birds singing in the forest. S and i both with macbooks in different rooms doing our thing.

Already had black coffee and fed the chicken and the cats. Filled the washing machine with green stuff.

Today I’ll try installing eyetv in my old iMac g4, if only it can handle running the software, the poor old thing. If it works we can start using it as our entertainment device and attach a block of lacie to it as storage. If S gets the wireless working on it too, of course. The same thing as in Gent once before, it would not accept the password, but S could fix it then so i guess it will be no problem this time too. Handy man is good.

Other than that, no plans for the weekend which is fine. Tomorrow’s dinner is cancelled because they get the isolation sprayed in their house. Spijtig genoeg our gemeente has got no activities related to de erfgoeddag tomorrow. Maybe we’ll just go biking around the area. Maybe we’ll just stay in the garden.

Yesterday i looked for stacy lattisaw’s jump to the beat and found it. What a marvellous disco blog!

Flower bouqet

The evening before my birthday S drove to the chicken farm and got us a chicken hut. We placed it at the back of the garage and S made a hole in the wire fence for the egg box. Then he drove back to the chicken farm and came back with five chicks. They had to be kept in the hut for the first night so that they would settle down a bit. Now their third night is ahead and they seem more or less at ease. But til now only two eggs in the box: the first one was really small and bumpy “stress-egg” but the second one we found looked more like an egg. We didn’t eat it yet.

Nice sunny and long weekend. Flowers. Trampoline. Garden. Fire. Green. Misty morning. This afternoon we barbequed. After eating (out in the garden) we layed down on the grass on the straw blanket. Warm sunset.

Soon a documentary about het lam gods on canvas+ in eyeTv.

That white thing

November 23rd, 2008

[in our garden]

I don’t know if you can call that snow but it comes close; something icy cold and white that came from the sky.

We stay warm indoors today thanks to S who went out to cut some wood for the stove while I was busy doing “nothing” – walking around with the cam or reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. He’s now busy with the satellite channels (a “hobby” he borrowed from his work for the weekend) – surfing on tv. It’s so weird having a television that actually shows programs in the house. We have been using our flat screen only for watching dvd’s or playstation until now. Today we receive about 600 channels and most of them just crap. None of the Flemish senders show up which is a bit disappointing. (just a bit)

The wind is howling in the chimney. If it was dark and i was alone it might sound a bit spooky. Now it just sounds cosy.

Tonight we’ll go to Brussel and Róisín Murphy will be there too. The whole concert will be filmed and soon to be seen on her website.
